Shielded Metal Arc Welding
Strand:
TVL - SMAW
About the Course
The Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) strand under the Technical-Vocational-Livelihood (TVL) Track in the K-12 Curriculum prepares students for careers in welding, metal fabrication, and structural engineering. This program follows TESDA competency standards, allowing students to earn National Certifications (NC I & NC II), which qualify them for employment in the construction, shipbuilding, automotive, and manufacturing industries or for entrepreneurship in welding services.

Program Objectives
Welding Fundamentals
Understanding welding tools, materials, and safety protocols
Basic and Advanced SMAW Techniques Practicing different welding positions (flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead)
Metal Cutting and Fabrication
Learning oxy-acetylene cutting, grinding, and shaping techniques
Blueprint Reading & Welding Symbols Interpreting engineering drawings and industry-standard welding symbols
Senior High School students who graduated with SMAW, may have the opportunity to get assessed and obtain a National Competency Certificate by TESDA, or continue with the college education.
Structural and Pipe Welding
Gaining skills in assembling and welding pipelines and structural components
Preventive Maintenance & Inspection Ensuring weld quality through testing and troubleshooting
